100 Article Challenge – Phase Two of my Passive Income Challenge

30 July, 2009 (09:24) | Article Writing Challenge, Passive Income Challenge | By: Dusty

Last month, I was able to complete ten niche Sniper sites. Each of these sites have about 5 to 10 pages of content and are currently being monetized by Clickbank products and Adsense. Even though I had fun creating these Sniper sites, in August I am shifting my focus back to writing articles. I will post about my progress once the month is over.

During July, I created approximately 50 articles in addition to the articles written for my niche sites. Each of these additional articles were published at ezinearticles with backlinks to my niche sites. Even though some of the articles are only a few weeks old, I am seeing a decent amount of traffic to my landing pages. I am also seeing a few clicks; which makes me even happier.

My buddy over at Passive Family Income, is challenging himself to create an additional 100 articles on eHow this month. While I can appreciate all the hard work and effort that this will take, I am concerned about his lack of diversification; with respect to revenue sharing sites. I understand the trust factor associated with eHow. They pay on time every month, rank extremely well in the search engines and display nicely targeted ads for the visitors to click see. Unfortunately, after my today dot com disaster, I will never put too much trust in one place again.

Don’t get me wrong. I love eHow and will keep writing for them. I simply want to diversify my online empire a bit. I would hate to spend hundreds of hours creating quality content only to have a site go under leaving me to start over again. I am so lazy that this would cause me to quit completely.

August Articles Goals

Currently, I have approximately 25 articles created on InfoBarrel and 5 or 10 on HubPages. During the month of August, I have decided to challenge myself to create 50 articles for each of these sites (for a total of 100 articles). While most people elect to use Infobarrel to create backlinks for hubpages, I will be doing the exact opposite. I will use HP to drive traffic to my articles on IB. It is simply a matter of choice, but I think IB is the site of the future.

In order to complete this goal, I will need to create 3 to 4 articles a day, each and every day. Like everyone else, I will probably try and bust out 10 or 20 over the next few days to relieve the pressure of completing this goal. Unlike the short articles you can get away with on eHow, IB and HP require longer, higher quality articles. Additionally, you can only have a couple self-serving links. I like this since it helps to keep the neighborhood safer in the eyes of Google.

Since these sites actually use the author’s adsense account code, you receive a higher amount of revenue for every click you receive. My goal is to have each article earn $1 per month on average. After a few months, this should add another $100 a month to my passive income streams. I will keep you posted on my progress during the course of the month.

Making Money Online is Easy

21 July, 2009 (23:05) | Passive Income Challenge | By: Dusty

Making money online is easy… Having the time to make money online is very, very, very difficult.

My main problem is that I am such a bad horrible typist. It takes forever to write even a simple 400 word article. What makes it even worse is my OCDish behavior of writing things down on paper BEFORE scratching them out on the keyword.

I have finally had enough of that crap. Today I bought Dragon Naturally Speaking 10. I am almost positive that is some dudes affiliate link (from the Warrior Forum), but who cares. Instead of paying $189 for a product I wanted, I got it for $49.99 (after $50 rebate). I should get it by Friday, which will give me the entire weekend to mess around with it.

I am hoping that this increases my productivity a bit. Currently it takes me about 30 minutes to an hour to research an article, and almost as long to write the darn thing.

Passive Income Progress

Over the past week, I have managed to publish 15 articles on Ezinearticles, 1 article on eHow, and completely finish all 7 Sniper Sites I have started (each has at least 4 posts and a product review). Additionally, I have purchased 2 additional domain names that have potential and are in completely unrelated niches. Most likely these sites will have to sit for a week or so before I can get started on them, as work is killing me right now :(

Passive Income Sales

I am currently on my longest streak of goose eggs that I have experienced since I started internet marketing. My hops have dropped dramatically, my sales pages seem stagnate and I am sick of seeing $0.00 on my daily clickbank account. If fact, it is so bad that I have stopped checking it daily, limiting myself to peeking 4 times a week at most. It is kind of depressing but I will keep moving on and trying to find profitable niches. On the positive side, I have managed to pick up some Adsense revenue from Infobarrel and my Sniper Sites.

If you have not started writing for Infobarrel yet, you really should check it out. Ryan and the gang run a first class operation over there and the articles seem to rank rather well with Google. Once I train the Dragon a bit, I plan on participating in the 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge at HubPages AND creating 30 Infobarrels in 30 Days at Infobarrel. That should really supercharge my passive income efforts.

I am also going to start a new One Week Marketing Campaign soon (like maybe this weekend). I really love that strategy and I should have stuck with that a bit longer since it was working so well. If you are struggling to make sales (like I am) and need a well written action plan, OWM is the way to go. Yeah…I am definitely going to drop a new campaign on the internet this week.

Other than that, things are going well. I am putting in a ton of effort now, with the expectation of a higher payout in 6 months time. Remember that if I am still earning less than $500 a month from passive sources at the end of December, I am done! Which reminds me, I really need to start posting over on ExperimentalBlogging. com as well. Perhaps, I should just sell that site and be done with it. Who knows!

Have you started any Sniper Sites (or One Week Marketing Campaigns) yet? How are your sales holding out?

Passive Income Challenge: Day 26 – SEO is NOT My Friend

13 July, 2009 (23:29) | Passive Income Challenge | By: Dusty

I am still not having too much success with my Sniper Site creation. The hops are low and the sales are non-existent. I have 8 sites up and running thus far. I am not as proficient as some people are.

My problem is that no matter how hard I try, I cannot help but what to create high-quality content. The idea of simply slapping up a one page review site makes my skin crawl. I know guys (and girls) who do it and make a killing, but I cannot make myself do it. I find myself tweeking and adjusting and basically wasting the hours, doing things that most likely will not earn me a penny.

We are 13 days into July already and I have yet to make a sale of any kind. In fact, this is the longest span I have gone without a sale in months. Pretty discouraging.

Luckily, I like building websites and blogs so it remains fun (for now). 5 1/2 months until my deadline, so we shall see…..

Sales: $0.00 – I am good at making this amount!

How have your sales been? Do you find yourself getting discouraged often?
