Can you earn quick money online?

Almost every time I visit one of those IM forums I see this question being asked over and over and over. I had to laugh when I saw a question that basically said he needed to make $1,000 by the end of this week and had no prior online marketing experience. Even worse, this same type of question has been popping up on the eHow forums lately. I wonder why people have the misguided perception that making money online is easy.

I knew when I got started that it was going to be a long, tough road. I honestly did not expect to be make even one dollar online. Fortunately for me, I began by writing articles on eHow, which has provided a nice, steady source of income. This turned out to be a great place to begin and has taught me a ton about things I never knew existed; SEO, affiliate marketing, etc.

After spending a few months of learning, I began to slowly branch into other areas. The first thing I did was buy One Week Marketing. I absolutely love this resource. In fact, 80% of what I do now is loosely based on the techniques I learned by reading, and acting, on Jennifer’s instructions.

As a side note, while watching football on Sunday I started a new OWM campaign. I only had time to write one article for Ezinearticles, which went live this morning. The very first person to click through actually bought the product. How cool is that?

You should not let the $47 price tag scare you. In my honest opinion it was worth every penny. There are other cheaper alternatives however. The best I have seen is 4 Day Profits. This dude is awesome and teaches you how to make a decent amount of money online for only $29. In fact, just by watching one of his FREE videos, I learned a new technique to find profitable niches.

What many people fail to recognize is that I can only manage to carve out about 2 hours a week to work on my online empire. Each month I have aspirations of working a ton, but then life, and/or work, gets in the way and I end up falling way short of my goals. Nevertheless, I push on, and so should you.

How Much Money Have I Earned?

So often when you come across a blog that talks about making money with a certain technique, the reader is left wondering just how much money that person actually made with that product. As such, I have added up my stats, as follows:

As you can see, I am making about $150 per month exclusively from  OWM campaigns. I make a tad more than that through other sites such as eHow, PPC advertising and article marketing (which is so much fun). I am slowly working my way up towards my goal of $500 per month by 12/31/09. Now that I have learned to really tap into the power of MicroNicheFinder I honestly expect my OWM campaigns and article marketing revenue to grow substantially.

Developing a steady stream of passive income is such a frustrating endeavor. Just when you think you have something figured out, something changes and you end up starting over. eHow has recently made another ‘quality control’ sweep and deleted a ton of articles. Today dot com scammed thousands of bloggers out of their content. Even Squidoo decided to change the rules in mid-stream. If you do not own your content, you are at risk of losing it all.

As such, I have decided that I do not like playing in someone else’s backyard. I am picking up my toys and going home.

After spending the past 6 months spinning in circles, I have decided that I really need a plan. I need to make strategic decisions that will affect the direction in which my online business takes. Spending hour upon hour, making $0.02 a hour simply is not cutting it. If someone offered me an offline job, even at $5 an hour, I would quickly refuse.

Why do we settle for making such a small amount online? Is this game simply too difficult for us to master?

It is possible to make decent money writing for others. To find the perfect example you do not need to look any further than Passive Family Income. John recently wrapped up his 100 article challenge earning over $100 from his new articles already. This isn’t bad if you ask me! The only problem I see is that he really does not have any control over his content. If eHow wants to delete his article and redirect his link to one of their own, there is nothing he can do about it. This makes me extremely nervous.

I tried my hand at creating Sniper Sites, ala George Brown, but my keyword research was terrible and these sites cannot be found on the first three pages of Google and get almost no organic traffic. I think I have resolved this issue by purchasing Micro Niche Finder. This software is quite simply the coolest thing I have ever bought. It does most of the hard work for you. Writing articles is easy. Picking profitable keywords is not!

Combining MNF with Jennifer’s One Week Marketing can be a pretty lethal combination to make money online. To be honest with you guys (and girls), I have let all the shiny things out there distract me. Instead of focusing one one niche, and technique, at a time I have spread myself entirely too thin. I need to remedy this immediately!

Over the next few days, I am going to figure out a streamlined path. I am going to cut out all of the things that distract me and figure out what I am good at. I will keep you guys updated!
