I love this post. I am going to challenge myself to go after five! I'll report back when I figure out what the five should be. Great idea. I linked to this at my blog. Thanks.

It seems like it is always the small things that end up causing the most havoc in my budget. Small but recurring things that is. I am a diet coke fanatic too. I have switched to mostly tea or water. I feel better that way but then I get really thirsty and all of a sudden I am back on the diet coke habit again. Sigh... I buy my books at either the thrift store or goodwill. At 25 cents each, I can get a ton and it has expanded my horizons as they don't always have what I am looking for.

I agree completely with you Kat! These are all things that are easily fixed, but I never budget for them.

The problem with cereal is that I eat about 3 servings at once (I wake up starving) and my library never has any new business books. The Dogs have been added as of tonight and my wife found this really good caramel salt stuff to put on our popcorn (which is awesome). Now if I could work on the soda thing :(

Thanks for stopping by. I really appreciate it.

I used to have almost the same budget busters!
Here are my suggestions for you.
Diet Coke, it is probably the caffeine you are after. I now drink a lot of ice tea that I make at home and carry with me everywhere.
Breakfast- sorry, that is an excuse. A bowl of cereal with milk takes less time to prepare and eat than going through a drive through.
Snacks...popcorn, apples, oranges. Cheap and good for you.
Dogs... gotta love em. Work them into the budget!
Books - get a library card and learn how to request books. I read 3-6 books per week and I would be homeless if it wasn't for the library! I request bestsellers as soon as they come out and I always have something to read.
Nice blog!
