The Next 100 Days – What Is In Store For The Bull?

30 April, 2009 (21:51) | Chasing The Bull, goals | By: Dusty

Now that we have established what I have accomplished during the past 100 days, it is time to think about the future. Like the old saying goes, ‘if you fail to plan, you plan to fail’. I must admit that in the past planning has been a bit of a weakness. I prefer to just see what happens and adjust.

Unfortunately, this type of thinking can really get you into trouble. In fact, over the past 24 months, the ‘old bull‘ has managed to pack on about 30 pounds. Since I never really plan my lunches out in advance, I typically get into a crunch for time and just grab Zaxby’s, or something equally as unhealthy. Additionally, my doctor is so frustrated with me that he did not even gripe at me. He simply sighed and told me to come back in three months. Talk about demoralizing!

With that in mind, it is imperative that I do something about my shape! Yes, I know that round is a shape, but I truly need to work on my fitness levels. I have been so focused on trying to become debt free that I have stopped doing the things that are truly important in life. So here it goes…written goals for the all the world to see – all three of you :)

Fitness Related Goals

  • eat a healthy diet (no more McDonalds and Zaxby’s)
  • 30 minutes of cardio – 4 times a week
  • free weights – 3 times a week
  • drink 5 glasses of water and no more than 6 sodas (yes friends – I drink 8 to 10 diet cokes a day)

Personal Finance Goals

  • complete a zero-based budget every two weeks
  • stop the slippage that is occurring in our budget
  • re-establish our emergency fund

Passive Income Goals

  • write 10 articles for eHow and Infobarrel
  • write 30 articles for my bum marketing experiment
  • make 5 sales on new affiliate products not previously promoted
  • get ChasingTheBull up to a page rank of 3 (currently sitting at PR2) – which reminds me, if you want to advertise here, just let me know :)
  • write at least 4 posts a week here (I know I have been seriously slacking lately)

So there you have it. My next 100 days are planned out and set in stone.

What are your goals for the next 100 days? What do you want to accomplish by August 8, 2009?

What I Have Learned in the Past Year

11 October, 2008 (11:47) | Blog Contest, Chasing The Bull | By: User ImageDusty

It is no secret that one of my favorite personal finance blogs is MiB. Hank does such a great job writing about subjects that really hit close to home.

If you have not checked out MiB lately, you owe it to yourself to spend a few hours catching up. When not debunking the 25 most outrageous money myths, Hank is developing really cool widgets that try and give you a true value of your blog based of traffic, links, etc. He is even hosting a huge contest, along with Free From Broke, in which you can win the following prizes:

$125 in cash

Books
How to Finance Your Invention or Great Idea

The Boss’s Survival Guide

One of the ways to earn additional entries into the contest is to discuss “The Things That I have Learned This Year”.

Over the past year, I have come to realize that my family is the most important thing in the world. When I was in my 20s, I had one goal; make money so I could retire early. What I failed to understand is that if I did not have such a wonderful family, retirement would not have been as wonderful as it will be.

Weekends are now filled with games of “Chase”, which involves me running after my 2 year-old son, pretending that I cannot catch him, playing with Thomas the Tank Engine, throwing a Nerf football, and watching the Veggie Tales.

And to be honest, I could not be any happier!

Personal Finance and Investing – Chasing the American Dream

14 March, 2008 (03:53) | Chasing The Bull | By: User ImageDusty

What exactly is Chasing the Bull? What does this even mean?

Chasing the Bull is my description for pursuing the American Dream. You read stories all the time about how people come to America with $5 in their pockets and the shirt on their backs that are now worth millions upon millions of dollars. How does this happen? Are these people genetically wired differently than you and me, or did they simply apply themselves to the task of making money better than we did?

What strategies did they employ to make it? Did they make all of their money in the stock market? Did they make their money in real estate? Can I learn these strategies myself and become another self-made millionaire?

Chasing the Bull is my personal take on the financial events that are shaping my life. Here you will find what I am currently doing to improve my financial situation, the kinds and types of investments I am considering, and anything else I can learn about the world of personal finance and investing. Consider this a guide to personal finance and investing.

Who says I cannot be the next Warren Buffett? Only time will tell.
